Estevan Oriol Sues H&M For Use of His Famous "LA Fingers" Photograph.

Mexican American photographer and director Estevan Oriol is the latest in a well-documented series of creatives that have come out against copyright issues involving major fast fashion retailers. The iconic “LA Hands” photo is the piece in question and was originally taken in 1995 — earning a spot as an unmistakable ode to Los Angeles. The premise of Oriol’s lawsuit outlines that both H&M and Brandy Melville utilized his protected work to create “a derivative and substantially similar image that is used on one or more of H&M and Brandy Melville’s T-Shirts – items that have been sold and continue to be sold in their respective retail stores worldwide,” according to a press release. Stay tuned for details on the preceding.
